Look what arrived at out house...

Two new arrivals this week.
First... this lovely new chicken coop made locally in Malanda...

Isn't it ingenious? So easy to move around. And of course some chickens to go in it... four little future layers.

Yes, I know what they say about not counting your eggs before they're laid, but I'm dreaming of our own free range omelettes. I've been buying free range eggs for decades, but it will be lovely to have our own. Not sure why we didn't get round to this earlier.
An then, at the PO...my box of Zoe's books. We were too excited to worry about makeup or tidying the kitchen.

Zoe's books are gorgeous. They're going to pop on the shelves :)

I love your chicken coop! It's aesthetically pleasing as well as keeping little feathery things safe. It won’t be long before you're enjoying those omelettes.

Thanks Lacey. By the way, I'm giving a workshop at the Cairns Tropical Writer's Festival on September 15th.
Thought I'd give an early heads up.

Love the box of books, and can't wait to read Zoe's story!

Love the chicken coop, too!

Two of our chickens were taken by a fox last week, so be careful. We're now having to be hyper-vigilant about shutting them away at night, and are hoping Foxy can't dig under the door into their shed, and that he/she isn't active during the day when the chooks are free ranging in their not-very-securely-fenced run.

Lilian, I think our four will have to do their free ranging inside the pen, at least for the foreseeable future.
We found a goshawk sitting on top of the coop yesterday.

Meant to add -- I hope your chickens stay safe. We have dingoes, and that's one of the reasons we're keeping the coop close to the house.

Your box of books looks wonderful - best wishes!! I remember you had some guinea fowl before?? Good luck with the new layers, will they have names??

We did have guinea fowl, 2paw, but their idea of free range was to take off all over the neighbourhood. They discovered a shiftworker and decided to sit outside his place and make a lot of noise when he was trying to sleep.
There was a nasty dingo incident which I didn't like to mention here, and I'm afraid when E and his mates had one of their feasts here, the others went in the cooking pot.
These new chickens are definitely only for eggs.
