awakened by moonlight...

If knew how, I'd put Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata as background music for this post. That music seems to speak to my very soul and it's one of the pieces I often write to.
It’s been rather cloudy here lately and I haven’t noticed what the moon was up to. Last night, however, at around a quarter to four, I woke and thought we’d left a light on outside.
When I got up and went to the window, I found the clouds had lifted and the sky was ablaze with stars, and a fat yellow moon was hanging in the western sky, sending light onto the laundry wall.
I went out into the kitchen to get a better view and wow! Our valley was filled with white mist, like a cauldron steaming with a magic potion, and the moon was lighting up the scene with a mysterious soft beauty.
Memorable - even better than this (public) photo, which I didn't take -you know why.

So if it's not too cloudy where you are, check out the moon tonight. What's it doing?

Well, this "fill in" photo is quite beautiful, too.

Do you have a cell phone that takes pictures? Some of my phone pictures are surprisingly good, and I always have it with me. Just a thought.

Magdalena, I do have a cell phone that takes photos, but being a technophobe, I have no idea how to get it from my phone to my computer. LOL
But all is not lost. E has found the charger!
Photos coming soon.

Gorgeous pic, Barb. We have a gibbous moon at the moment and it has been lovely, very bright. Raining this weekend but we have the full moon to look forward to if the clouds ever go away.

It's not getting dark here until almost 9pm, so seeing the moon at all is a challenge! But last night, we happened to be out and the full moon is tomorrow, so it was almost full. I had to stop in the middle of a parking lot and gawk for a few seconds until a honk sent me on my way.

Ah, Liz, trust a wonderful writer like you to have me reaching for the dictionary, to learn that a gibbous moon is one that's more than half but less than fully illuminated. I think that's what ours was supposed to be, but it sure looked full.
Mandy, I can just see you getting honked in the car park (grin), but I have difficulty imagining it still daylight at nine pm. In the tropics, the sun sets at 7 pm in summer and six pm in winter -- hardly any difference at all.
