India all lit up...

Saw this on Facebook....
It's an aerial photo of India taken during the Festival of Lights. Isn't it stunning? I've never been to India, but I think it's a fascinating country. I need to read more books set there. Any recommendations?

A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth is wonderful, but even better is A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. Marg

The Hungry Tide by Amitav Ghosh is beautiful, Barb. I must find time to read his latest book River of Smoke.

Hope you're writing is going well!

Thanks, Helene. The Hungry Tide is a fascinating title.

Meant to say to Marg, that I started A Suitable Boy, but found it too depressing. Maybe I should have stuck with it. I loved Vikram Seth's An Equal Music.

Oooh... so many books... Aren't we lucky?

I only know slightly depressing stores: The Jewel in the Crown and A Passage to India.

2paw, I read A Passage to India many years ago and loved it. I don't remember too many details though.

I guess books written by Indians about their own country would be very different from those by an Englisman like EM Forster. Or perhaps not. I'll have to find out.
